Beyond Zero Medical Safari in Kiambu County.

This Medical Safari was conducted at Farlyndum Estate (22nd March 2021) and at Thika Cloths Mills Ltd (24th-26th March 2021) in Kiambu County reaching over 800 workers and their spouses. Beyond Zero mobilized partners to provide the following services; breast, cervical and prostate cancer screening; HIV testing & counseling and comprehensive eye care screening. Beyond Zero, farm workers and the partners observed the following Covid-19 prevention measures during the Medical Safari; hand washing and temperature at the point of registration, distribution of masks, crowd control whereby a limited number of people were allowed at the outreach area at one time, social distancing and disinfection of all equipment regularly.

The following services were provided;

Cervical & breast cancer screening; At this service station, health education on risk factors, prevention, signs and symptoms of cervical cancer and screening services were provided to female workers at Farlyndum Estate and Thika Cloths Mills Ltd. A total of 197 women were screened for cervical cancer.

Prostate cancer screening; Health education on sexual reproductive health for all the men and prostate cancer screening services for men above 40 years were provided. 10 cases of suspicious prostate cancer were referred for further diagnostic tests.

HIV testing & counseling, condoms distribution; A total of 553 people were tested for HIV. The 2 positive cases were linked to care at the nearest health facilities; Tigoni sub-county hospital for Farlyndum Estate and Makongeni Dispensary for Thika Cloth Mills. AIDs Healthcare Foundation will do follow up to ensure that the 2 cases are linked to care and are started on treatment. Over 5,000 condoms were also distributed during the two camps.

Comprehensive Eye Care Screening; In the eye screening station, a total of 787 people were screened, 9 were found to have cataracts and have been referred to City Eye Hospital for surgery. 301 reading glasses were dispensed during the Medical Safari.
