Beyond Zero hosts the second Medical Safari in Kisumu County.

The second Beyond Zero Medical Safari which was held in Kisumu County on the 21st-23rd November 2018 at the Jomo Kenyatta grounds saw over 20 partners come on board to provide different health services to over 6,000 residents of Kisumu County. The partners included; Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Kenya, Amref Health Africa, Airtel, UNICEF, UNAIDs, National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF), Philips Healthcare, Beth Mugo Cancer Foundation, Africa Cancer Foundation, Women for Cancer, Medanta, AMPATH, A.I.C. Cure International, Kisii Eye Hospital, Vision Springs, Medtronic, General Electric Kenya, National Council for Persons with Disabilities, Pasaiba Tourmaline Ltd, Liverpool VCT, National Aids Control Council (NACC), Ministry of Health (MOH), Milele fm, Ramogi fm, Mediamax and the County Government of Kisumu.

The three-day medical safari saw residents of Kisumu County receive a wide range of health services from different providers. The services provided were; screening and repair of obstetric fistula, screening of cervical and breast cancer for women and prostate and breast cancer for men, screening of cardiovascular conditions, comprehensive eye check-up, antenatal ultra sound screening, registration to Linda Mama and Supa Cover by NHIF, sickle cell screening for under 5s, assessment and registration of persons with disabilities and general outpatient services

The event was graced by Her Excellency the First Lady of the republic of Kenya Margaret Kenyatta alongside her counterpart the First Lady of Mozambique Isaura Nyusi, Kisumu County Governor Hon. Prof. Anyang Nyong’o and his spouse Dorothy Nyong’o. The First Lady commissioned a Point of Care Early Infant Diagnostic (POCEID) device, the first in the country which was donated by Beyond Zero to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital. POCEID technology allows HIV-exposed infants (HEI) to be tested at the clinic and receive their results on the same day, supporting the rapid enrolment of HIV-positive infants on life-saving antiretroviral treatment. In line with the 2nd Strategic Framework, the First Lady also launched the Kisumu County Elimination of Mother to Child Transmission (eMTCT) of HIV/Aids, 2018/22 business plan.

Speaking at the event, Hon Peter Anyang Nyongo the Governor for Kisumu County applauded Beyond Zero for organizing such a splendid event that will work towards delivering medical relief at the doorstep of the most vulnerable mothers and children throughout the county.
