NYERI 3RD SEPTEMBER, 2025: The fight against obstetric fistula and its devastating effects on women’s lives received a major boost in Nyeri County as partners gathered at the Nyeri County Referral Hospital for the M-Pesa@15 Fistula Camp. Among the key partners was the Beyond Zero Initiative, reaffirming its mission to ensure equitable access to healthcare for vulnerable populations.
Beyond Zero Strategic Plan 2023–2027 emphasizes advancing maternal and newborn health while addressing gender-based vulnerabilities through innovative partnerships. So far, the camp has screened 139 women, with 16 women successfully undergoing corrective fistula surgeries, restoring not just their health but also their confidence and social inclusion.
Beyond Zero’s involvement is a reflection of its continued dedication to tackling silent but life-shattering health conditions that disproportionately affect women in under-resourced communities.
Representing Beyond Zero, Natalie Kimani said “Addressing fistula is one of Beyond Zero’s six focus areas, around maternal and child health which has been the key pillar of our work for over 10 years. Since 2018, Beyond Zero has worked with counties and partners to raise awareness, train health workers and support free surgical repairs and to date we have witnessed testimonials of how this joint collaboration has impacted and changed lives of many women and their families”.
“Today’s camp is a powerful testimony of what partnership can achieve. Together, we are restoring hope, reaffirming dignity, and ensuring that no woman suffers in silence.”she added.
The camp brought together a strong coalition of partners; Amref Health Africa, Flying Doctors Society of Africa (FDSA), Safaricom PLC, and the M-Pesa Foundation whose collaboration demonstrates the power of multi-sectoral partnerships in delivering impactful healthcare interventions.
Running from August 29 to September 5, 2025, the camp is set to transform the lives of many women, restoring their health and dignity. The collective effort of Beyond Zero and its partners stands as a powerful reminder that, through collaboration, healthcare can truly be made accessible, equitable, and dignified for all.
