EMBU HEALTH WORKERS TRAINED ON CERVICAL CANCER SCREENING

EMBU 19TH SEPTEMBER, 2025: Beyond Zero, in collaboration with the National Cancer Control Program (NCCP) and the Embu County Department of Health, has concluded a four-day comprehensive training for healthcare workers aimed at scaling up cervical cancer prevention and treatment services. The training forms part of a three-year ‘screen-and-treat’ cervical cancer prevention project in the county.
A total of 28 healthcare workers drawn from Runyenjes, Manyatta, and Mbeere North sub-counties participated in the program, which combined theory with hands-on sessions. Practical training at Embu County Level 5 Hospital enabled participants to immediately apply classroom knowledge, strengthening their skills in cervical cancer detection and treatment.
The training was officially inaugurated by the County Executive Committee Member for Health, Hon. Jamal Runyenje, who reaffirmed the county’s strong commitment to preventive healthcare. “Cervical cancer remains one of the greatest threats to women’s health, and by empowering our healthcare workers, we are making critical progress in saving lives. We appreciate Beyond Zero for walking with us in this fight,” he noted. Hon. Runyenje was accompanied by the County Chief Officer for Medical Services, Benjamin Kisilu.
As part of the training, a two-day free breast and cervical cancer screening exercise was conducted at Embu Level 5 Hospital, offering services to the public. By combining capacity building with regular screening outreaches, the initiative is expected to boost screening uptake, enhance early detection, and improve timely treatment for women across Embu County.
