First Lady Margaret Kenyatta has heightened her high altitude training in Nyeri County in readiness for the 2nd Edition of the First Lady’s Half Marathon.

She has continued her daily early morning training sessions in Sagana to build endurance and strength for the 8th March, 21 km race.

The First Lady is training under legendary long-distance runner Douglas Wakiihuri who is her coach.

The Half Marathon is part of her fund-raising initiatives to increase access to better healthcare through the provision of mobile clinics to all 47 counties.

She urged Kenyans to be more mindful of their own wellbeing, saying running, besides raising funds for the Beyond Zero campaign, “gives participants the additional benefits of ensuring they remain in good health”.

Adding, “Health experts say that regular exercise and the consumption of a healthy diet can lead to a host of benefits, including increased energy, happiness, health and even a long life”.

The First Lady launched the ‘Beyond Zero Campaign’ in 2013 to bring prenatal and postnatal medical treatment closer to women and children in the country.

“The fact that women and children in our country die from causes that can be avoided saddens me,” said the First Lady.

Last year, the First Lady raised over Sh. 200m which went to the purchase of 20 mobile clinics. So far 17 of the clinics have been delivered to the most deserving counties.
