More hospitals to receive medical equipment from US-based Project C.U.R.E. NAIROBI, 20th SEPTEMBER 2016, (PSCU)—First Lady Margaret Kenyatta today at State House, Nairobi , hosted top officials of Project C.U.R.E, the philanthropy group that distributes donated medical supplies and equipment across the world. C.U.R.E is an acronym for the Commission on Urgent Relief and Equipment- the world’s largest medical supply and recovery organization that identifies and collects excess medical supplies from US hospitals and medical manufacturers before distributing them to 130 nations around the world. The Philanthropy group, led by its Chief Executive Officer Dr. Douglas Jackson, is in the country to assess more hospitals that require assistance in terms of medical supplies and equipment. The team that has been in the country for the last one week has so far assessed seven hospitals and health centres in Murang’a besides visiting Consolata Hospital in Kieni (Embu) which is earmarked to receive the second consignment of medical supplies and equipment from the US. The team heads to the Mara region tomorrow. Chemolingot Hospital in East Pokot was the first beneficiary of Sh 40 million worth of medical supplies and equipment from project C.U.R.E and which was delivered to the health facility by the First Lady last July. The First Lady said she was happy to welcome the Project C.U.R.E team in Kenya following her successful visit to Arizona (USA) last March where she was part of the group that loaded (into a 40-footer truck) the medical supplies and equipment that was finally delivered to Chemolingot. “ I am happy you were able to come.. I am happy with what you are doing, not only in Kenya but all over the world”, she said During the visit to the US, the First Lady also attended a fund-raising luncheon attended by over 1500 supporters and sponsors of Beyond Zero, mainly the business community from Arizona where more funds were mobilized to ship additional consignments of medical supplies and equipment to Kenya. The First Lady also took the project C.U.R.E team through the visual impressions and artworks of the proposed Sh 2.2 billion Beyond Zero referral hospital. “The layout is very good. Its very impressive”, said Dr. Douglas. Other Project C.U.R.E officials accompanying Dr. Jackson to State House included Mr Charles G. Irion, Ms Sarah McCarthy, Mr John Grudis, Mrs Carol Grudis and Ms Mary Ellen DiMatteo.
